Mara, the caretaker at Quill, smiling warmly while holding a small hedgehog in her cupped hands outdoors in soft afternoon light

"I've kept hedgehogs for nine years. I know when they're stressed, when they're curious, and when they just want to be left alone."

— Mara, Founder & Primary Caretaker

Your Caretaker

Hi, I'm Mara.
I speak hedgehog.

Before opening Quill, I fostered rescue hedgehogs for the Nashville Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and kept a colony of six for three years. I know hibernation attempts from true sleep, and I know which hogs need the lights dimmed at 8pm sharp.

Every Stay Includes

What we do while
you're away.

No upsells. No tiers. Every hog gets the full experience — because cutting corners on a hedgehog's care isn't something we're willing to do.

Bioactive Substrate

Cork bark, coconut fiber, and dried oak leaf litter. Replaced between every guest.

Live Spider Plants

Every enclosure has at least two live plants. Oxygen, humidity, and something to snuffle through.

Nightly Wheel Time

Silent spinner sessions from 8pm–midnight in the supervised run room. Distance logged and shared with you every morning.

Digital gram scale on a wooden surface showing precise hedgehog weight measurement with a small notebook beside it

Daily Gram-Scale Weigh-Ins

Weight tracked every morning. A drop of 10g or more triggers a same-day vet check — at no cost to you.

Temperature Control

Pods held at 75–80°F. Separate thermometers in each unit, checked twice daily.

Photo Updates

One candid photo texted to you each evening so you can sleep without worrying.

"The daily weight logs were a revelation. I never knew Fig had been losing weight until Mara caught it on day 3 and had her checked. Vet found a tooth issue. Literally saved her."
